The project aimed at improving the access to sustainable energy services for the poor un-served rural communities of Tanzania. The target groups were the Maasai pastoralists and Meru farmers living in Oldonyo Sambu and Ngarenayuki Wards, without access to rural electrification or alternative modern energy services. The project had particular focus on women and children. The long-term beneficiaries are the populations of the two wards (about 39,000 people and 8050 household in 2006) belonging to 9 villages.
