The proposed project activity will install water treatment plants at two sites in rural Rwanda. The water treatment plants will be photovoltaic driven ultraviolet disinfection systems which provide a radiative thermal load to the water and uses gravity fed filtration where appropriate; this will provide bacterially decontaminated water safe for drinking, food preparation and personal hygiene. These water treatment systems substitute the use of non-renewable firewood that would have been required to treat water by boiling. This small-scale project activity will be implemented and managed by Manna Energy Limited (MEL) in partnership with Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) and the Rwanda Ministry of Education (MINEDUC).
