A2A is the largest multi-utility in Italy. Based in Milan, the A2A group operates in the energy sector locally in four areas of activity: energy (production of electrical power and sale of electrical power and gas), environment (collection and processing of urban and industrial waste), heat (cogeneration and district heating for urban use) and networks (distribution of electrical power and gas, and integrated water cycle). The Group is also present abroad through operations in the European electricity and gas markets, hydroelectric power production and distribution of electrical power in the Balkans, and construction of waste processing plants in various European countries. In 2013, the Group recorded a turnover of 5.6 billion euros. A2A is listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. A2A contributes to initiatives to provide access to energy to populations who lack it. It supports projects implemented through the voluntary work of the “Civil Protection Group A2A”, in cooperation with non-governmental organizations. The Group realized several initiatives and in particular, in the recent past, the implementation of small photovoltaic power plants and electric grids to bring electricity to isolated villages (e.g in Sri Lanka, Haiti): to give people a chance to get out from the extreme poverty cycle and have a better future.
Today Edison is active in the production and sale of both electric power and hydrocarbons, with a relevant growth abroad especially in E&P activities, thanks to 58 concessions and permits in Italy and 53 abroad (Europe and Mediterranean basin). Today the Company can count on hydrocarbon reserves of 50.4 billion cubic meters, including reserves in the Egyptian concession of Abu Qir. Counting on this gas availability, Edison covers 22.5% of the whole Italian demand. In the electric sector Edison can count on a fleet of 47 hydroelectric plants, 22 thermoelectric power plants, 32 wind farms, 9 solar farms and 1 biomass plant with a total capacity of 7.700 MW. In 2013 Edison produced 18.7 TWh, covering a market share of 6.7%. Edison has built the Adriatic LNG Terminal in Rovigo, the first one in the world ever built off-shore that allows the import of 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year, equivalent to10% of the Italian demand. In 2008 Edison made its debut in the Italian residential market with an electric power offer designed for Italian households, that just one year later was expanded with a similar proposal for gas. The successful offer for the residential market was such that, in a few years, Edison reached the milestone of 1.5 million customers.
